Caer for Roman fort, Swys (or Swys-wen) possibly the name of a local queen – the Fair Susie.
The walk promised easy walking & fine views; unfortunately the paths were not well-maintained or even well-marked! Eventually we gave up and walked along the road to the next village, where we had our picnic by the churchyard.

The waymarks improved after lunch. We did miss a turn at one point, but it was all to the good as that field turned out to have about 60 extremely frisky bullocks in it! In due course we came on to the Severn Way, and dropped down back to the river & the village.

The pub had just opened, so we treated ourselves to a pint. And the butcher’s shop was still open, so we treated ourselves to some nice ingredients for the rest of the week.
Home for a cup of tea, a shower, and chicken & mushrooms for supper.
