2026-06-10 Walla Crag & Bleaberry Fell

Apparently it absolutely hoiked it down last night, but it didn’t bother us! The forecast for the morning was passing showers and brighter in the afternoon. It was actually quite breezy, but no rain, and glorious after lunch.

We headed out of town towards Walla Crag – a steady climb through lovely woods and alongside nicely full streams.

You shall not pass!

When we got to the Crag, we met a sponsored walk, raising funds for Macmillan.

From Walla Crag we headed across the fell to Bleaberry Fell.

After lunch we started along the path over to High Seat, but the ground was very boggy – and the path down from there would have been impassable after the rain. So we turned back and then dropped down to Ashness Bridge, with stunning views over Derwent Water.

We watched a number of SUVs, vans, motor homes struggling to negotiate the bridge!

We turned north through Great Wood towards Keswick, and eventually came down to the road and then across to the lake shore. We followed it back to Keswick, where the ice-cream shop by the lake was still open.

Then home for a shower & cuppa, before going out to a rather good Thai restaurant for supper.
