2025-09-08 Conwy Mountain

Sunshine! Well, maybe an odd passing shower, but mainly sunny.

We parked behind the castle, and headed up the mountain – the views just got better & better.

Conwy and the river
Great Orme, Llandudno, Conwy
Tal-Y-Fan (back left) where we were last week
Iron age hill fort & hut circle – surely you can see that?!

We dropped down the far side to the Sychnant pass – if you stood in just the right place, you could see right down the valley to Anglesey.

Down the Sychnant valley

There was quite a stiff breeze whistling up the valley, so we found a sheltered spot by a wall for lunch

Once we’d shoo-ed away the wild ponies

Then the route took us round past a little tarn

Gwern Engen (suffering from summer drought)

And down through fields and farmlands back to Conwy.

Bracket fungus
… he’s king of the fields
Tiny little chapel, in the middle of a field

Back in Conwy, it was only 3pm, so we went for a nosy round the castle – and more stunning views

Conwy Castle
Guardsman
Three bridges – the A55 now goes through a tunnel under the estuary
The tide is going out…
It’s a very compact little town, under the mountain

We walked along the quay and had an ice cream; we got half way round the walls but the rest were closed; we came back to the quay for a quick pint; we went home for chicken & chorizo casserole.

Mussels!
The smallest house
What beautiful green lawns
Best bus shelter ever

Conwy Mountain – 6 miles

Conwy Town – 2.5 miles

Weather looks better. Have Anth photos of much of this. When we were more agile, energetic and young!
