The forecast was for bright & breezy, although with the cloud base at 900m then the high tops would be no good – we’re not climbing a mountain with no views from the top! So we chose Tal-Y-Fan, at the eastern end of the Carneddau.
We walked up through the woods above Rowen, and along the old Roman Road between Conwy and Caernarfon.

Then we turned up the hill to the trig point on Tal-Y-Fan.

We dropped down the front of the hill, and picked our way across the moorland to the tiny medieval church of Llangelynin, nestled in a fold in the hill.

After that, the paths became rather confusing, and then disappeared altogether! But we managed to find our way across to the Pilgrim’s trail, and then back down to the village.

We had a very well-deserved pint in the pub, then home for a quick shower and chorizo arrabiata for supper.
