2026-02-24 Semerwater

We left home around 10.30. The plan was to go to Dent for lunch, but this early in the year, nowhere was open there! So we stopped in Hawes instead, where we were spoilt for choice.

Gayle Beck, Hawes

So instead of exploring Dent Dale, we drove up to Semerwater and walked along its south-eastern edge, and through the nature reserve. It was a bit muddy underfoot, but manageable, and the water meadows were definitely watery.

The chapel fell into disuse after a more convenient one was built in the village
Oh no…
… fortunately someone had planned ahead

We crossed the beck at Marsett and headed straight up the side of the fell, then walked along the ridge, with splendid views to north and south.

The river Bain is only 2 miles long

We got to the hotel in time for a cup of tea and a shower, before the star gazing got underway.

Tuesday: 6 miles
