2025-09-12 Moelfre

Our last day – and the forecast was bright & breezy, especially on Anglesey, so we headed up to Moelfre on the east coast.

Views to the Great Orme & Snowdonia

Our route took us inland around Din Lligwy, on a gallop through history, …

Neolithic burial chamber
4th century village
12th century chapel
Which still has a crypt

We found a sheltered bench in a churchyard for our picnic

Then we headed up to Yr Arwydd, the highest point on Anglesey itself. Sadly there had been a moorland fire in the last few weeks – we could still smell it – and it was a scene of devastation.

Trig point was still intact – but very windy

We continued across farmland, passing a monument to the three Morris brothers, born locally in the 18th century, and renowned for their wide range of intellectual & scientific interests.

We stopped for refreshment at a very convenient pub, and then turned towards the sea, and followed the coast path all the way back to Moelfre.

It had been a long day, and the ice-cream shops were all shut, and we had to go home for tea & tidying & packing, so we skipped the pub 😢.

But we had leftovers-fricassee (chicken, leeks, mushrooms etc) with chips, and it was delicious!
