The forecast looked horrible… So we thought it would be a good day for the traditional Welsh activity of visiting the slate mine at Blaenau Ffestiniog. Unfortunately, it was closed on an out-of-season Wednesday! And the weather wasn’t too bad after all, so instead we went on to Betwys-y-Coed, for a walk in the woods.

We walked up to a viewpoint with a convenient bench for lunch

And onwards & upwards to Llyn Parc, a huge upland lake hidden in the woods

On the way back down, we passed many interesting things

By the time we got back to the town, the rain had arrived, so we availed ourself of an excellent pub, where we got beer and tea and ice cream, all under one roof!
We took the road home over/between/through the mountains, but sadly the cloud had come down so far that we couldn’t really see any of them. We were just coming into the village off the narrowest & steepest part, when we met a school bus going the other way – and were very grateful it hadn’t been 5 minutes earlier!
Sausage egg & chips for supper.
