The forecast was for sunny intervals but very windy, so no high hills today either! But first some admin – the farm shop up the road looks like a garden shed, but provided us with some excellent meats.

We actually started in Tal-y-bont, so we would end next to the pub – planning ahead! We walked through woods & farmland, past Cors y Gedol Hall, and across the lower slopes of Moelfre, where we found an extremely convenient rock to spread our picnic on.

We had views in all directions, although it was a bit hazy in the distance

West to the Lleyn peninsula
North to Snowdon

… and East to the Rhinogs, south to Pembrokeshire…

We came round the back of a craig and into the top of the Ysgethin valley, and along an old drovers’ road to Pont Scethin, a pack bridge. It allegedly also serviced the London/Harlech mail coach, but we have our doubts – it was very narrow!

The route got very boggy, but flags had been laid across the worst of it – although it was definitely more stream than path in places. It got better as we approached Llyn Erddyn, an austere but beautiful mountain lake

Roman roads… Roman walls? No messing about here!

Further down the valley, we crossed a slightly larger pack bridge, then followed the river down through the woods, all the way back to the pub.

Home for a very nice piece of steak for supper!
