The weather forecast was for better a bit further south, so that’s the way we headed.
We parked by the road in Rhyd-y-sarn, and walked up through some ancient atlantic rainforest – it was all very damp, but lovely!

Over the top of the hill, we met the Ffestiniog railway, where it takes a big loop round rather than having to make a right-angle turn
And down through the still-damp woods

We continued through the woods looking for a place to have our picnic. We were just saying “there needs to be more benches in these woods” when… ta-daa… a bench appeared!

We were making our way down to the valley floor, when a passing shower came past – enough to make us get out our waterproofs. But there were some handsome houses to admire

By now the rain had passed through. The route back was along the valley floor by the river, and then over the shoulder of the last hill, back to the car.
Home for a shower, and sausage egg & chips for tea.
