We loaded up the car and left York pretty much at 10am, and got to the pub very soon after 12. Standard pub lunch (burger, scampi) fuelled us for an afternoon in the fresh air.
We headed west along the Monsal Trail (a disused railway line), past various pieces of industrial architecture.

Soon we turned to walk alongside the river Wye, and then up and over Wormhill. At one point a farmer had festooned electric fencing across the paths, which meant a bit of a detour, but soon we were back on track to the top of Monk’s Dale.

It was quite an adventurous scramble, over rocky paths and fallen trees – we met some teenagers who strongly disapproved of all the Nature that was happening to them!

When we got back to the car, we found the old station refreshment room was still open, for ice-cream AND a cup of tea.
We checked in to the guesthouse in Buxton – we have a very comfortable penthouse (attic?) room. The owner (a retired Ukrainian chemistry teacher called Wolodomyr) explained many things to us, and then we went to a local pub for supper.

Afterwards we went for a stroll round Buxton and the Pavilion Gardens – by which time we had room for pudding, in a different pub

Tucked up in bed by 10pm, and slept well all night.
