2025-02-25 Geocaching

Today was again a bright & breezy day…

There are a number of geocache trails around the city, which always highlight interesting titbits of local knowledge.

We started off by heading across the river to find the shrine to Minerva, carved into the bedrock in a local park.

Eye of faith…
… mosaic interpretation

We ambled round & gawped at the Posh Houses, then came back via the suspension bridge

which bounces as you walk on it

We explored around Grosvenor park, a large & lovely green space along the riverbank. There was even a miniature railway, although sadly not running today.

Interesting pruning!
Hobbes’ well – if a maiden immerses her right leg, she will dream of her husband
… well it would if the kiosk were open

We had lunch in a little bistro, then wandered further collecting way points & caches.

St John’s – see the arches get more pointy (gothic) as they get higher
Cathedral bell tower, styled as a Roman watchtower
Janna the baby elephant
Bridge of Sighs
Celebration of Chester – Protection, Industry, Thanksgiving

Chester is famous for the Rows. The bedrock was too hard to dig into for cellars, so they built storage at street level and had their shop above – and now all the street level units are also shops

We came home for a quick cup of tea, then went out for tapas for supper.
