2025-02-24 Two Tours

The weather was much better today – bright but breezy – we could see Wales while having breakfast!

Towards the Clwydian hills

We booked ourselves onto a walking tour of the town. It’s an excellent way to get some background info about a place, and there were only four of us.  We hopped from period to period as we passed interesting places – roman, saxon, viking, medieval, Georgian, Victorian, modern… Just like the city itself.

Section of the walls – wooden in Roman times, rebuilt in stone by the Normans
Castle – still in use as law courts
Cathedral – built by the saxons, rebuilt in medieval times, restored by the victorians
Medieval house, now the oldest pub in Chester (John Lennon’s granny was born here)
Built as a bank, still a bank
The second most photographed clock in Britain

We had lunch in a cheese & wine shop

Well deserved!

And so fortified, set out on a complete circuit of the walls.

Home for a cup of tea, then out to a local pizzeria for supper.
