2024-06-28 Coniston & Brantwood

The forecast was for showers again ☔

We went to Coniston and the Ruskin museum, which was a bit of a Random Bag of Stuff. It also has Donald Campbell’s K7 Bluebird, in which he very nearly broke his own water-speed record in Jan 1967, but died in the attempt.

Picnic in the car

After lunch, we got the boat across to Brantwood, where Ruskin lived for the second half of his life. We looked round the house, including his mineral collection (and various artists’ response to it), and also the gardens.

Tea & cake, between showers

We got the boat back, and came home to put rolled lamb breasts in the oven while we cleaned & packed for the end of our holiday.

Total: about 3 miles max!
