2024-06-27 Troutbeck Valley

The weather has turned… Sunshine & showers, gusty winds (50mph this afternoon!) so we decided not to do the Fairfield Horseshoe ridge walk.

We drove to Troutbeck, the next valley south of us, and parked by the church about half way up. Then we walked up along the south side, towards the head and “the Tongue”, a smallish hill left by the glaciers.

Troutbeck, strung out along the opposite side of the valley
Looking towards the Tongue, with Stony Cove Pike behind
Yet another mountain stream
Getting closer to the Tongue
The wind was really picking up, but we found some shelter for lunch
The view from the top of the Tongue
Windermere, shimmering in the distance

We picked our way down the front of the Tongue, and headed back along the bottom of the valley. When we got back to Troutbeck, we had a pint in the pub, then came home the pretty way, over Kirkstone Pass – also known as the Struggle as it’s so steep!

Tonight we will be going out for a Thai meal.
