The forecast was for sunny intervals, and we decided to take it easy after yesterday’s adventure (Coniston Old Man).
Wray Castle is a Victorian gothic fantasy. Beatrix Potter met Canon Hardwick Rawnsley there while she was on holiday there in 1882. Only the ground floor is open, as an exhibition space. Currently it’s showing photos from the archives of the 1924 Everest expedition, focusing on the contributions of the Sherpas.

After lunch we walked round the parklands, woods, and along the shores of the lake. Mum had a paddle, but Dad & Andrew chickened out.

The vegan cafe was full of vegans earnestly discussing water consumption (much to the dismay of the serving staff), so our ice-cream was a bit soft by the time we got it, but it tasted well enough.
Home for a quick cup of tea, then Mum & Dad toddled into town for a bit of shopping. We had a very nice piece of steak for tea.
