2024-06-18 Wansfell & Troutbeck

The weather showed low chance of rain.

We walked down the hill to where we could cross the river, then back up the other side to the waterfalls, Stockghyll Force. Given how much rain we’ve had over the last few months, it was in full force.

We made our way up Wansfell, with the view over Ambleside expanding as we got higher.

Ambleside, nestled in the mountains

When we got to the top we could see all the way down Windermere to Morecambe Bay, and beyond that (in the haze) the Fylde peninsula. Andrew spotted Blackpool Tower through the binoculars.

We dropped down into Troutbeck for a pub lunch at the Mortal Man.

We headed along the road back towards the lake, and then along a track down through Skelghyll Woods.

When we got back to Ambleside we nipped into Tesco for some essentials, then had an ice cream before heading home for showers, and burgers for supper.
