We left York about 10.30

Got to Penrith about 12.30, had lunch in Booths’ Cafe. Decided not to look at the castle as it was starting to rain.

Got to Ambleside about 2.30, but couldn’t get in the house until 4. Went to the Garden Centre to see if we could get a cup of tea in the cafe, but it was raining so hard we didn’t even get out of the car! Drove down the lake a bit to find somewhere with a better view, but it had eased off by the time we got to Brockholes Visitor Centre, so we wandered round the gardens and then had an icecream in the marquee.

House about 4pm, in a whole private estate (don’t know how many are holiday lets, how many are private residences). Apartment has kitchen & lounge upstairs, together with Andrew’s room and a bathroom, wrap-around balcony over the river. Downstairs, main bedroom with en suite bathroom. Warm and clean, kitchen is well equipped.

Morrisons delivered around 5.30, then pizza for tea. Mum & Dad went for a short stroll around the estate.

The car isn’t as full as in the “olden days”
